Original Sin: A Short Story (Reflection)

Reading this poem for the first time, was very confusing. I felt as if this person was hopeful for a better life and just kept running away from something that he/she just can not escape. After reviewing it in class, I got a a more concise reflection on how this person is hurt about some kind of memory or experience.

The symbolism in "Original Sin: A Short Story" speaks heavily about some kind of loss and loneliness. It begins talking about this horrifying nightmare. A nightmare that is never "ever lost"  that is constantly coming back, no matter where this person is at or where he/she moves.  "When children call and your heart goes stone in the blossom" symbolizes that this person doesn't like to hear children laughing, hinting at a painful experience as a child; probably causing some jealousy because he/she did not have this laughter and easy going life. This person is also lonely and feels joy out of people's misfortunes.
